École Robb Road Playground Initiative

We are pleased to be raising money to build a new playground that will features inclusive surfacing and a wide range of exciting equipment for children of all levels.

Our initiative

Inclusion

Our project is dedicated to providing an inclusive playground experience for children of all ages and ability.

Fundraising

Our fundraising target is to raise $250,000 through grants, auction, donations, and fundraising in our community.

Goals

Our goal is to create a universally designed and inclusive playground for all Robb Road students, and the community.

What is happening

Each year School District 71 applies for the Playground Equipment Program (PEP) grant for one school in the district, and École Robb Road Elementary (ÉRR) is next. If the grant is successful, ÉRR will receive funding in the spring of 2025 to upgrade one of the existing playgrounds in the summer of 2025. This grant is very exciting as it provides ÉRR with an opportunity to elevate our children’s play
experiences!

Being Inclusive

The Playground Equipment Program (PEP) grant provides schools with funding to replace outdated playgrounds with ones that are universally designed. Universal design aims to create environments with fewer physical barriers to people of all ages and abilities. This allows all users, including children and their family members, to enjoy these spaces.

Universally designed playgrounds feature a range of adventure-style equipment suitable for all elementary-aged students, regardless of ability. A key feature of these playgrounds is the soft, rubber surfacing, which is mobility aid friendly. The PEP grant specifies that to meet the range of student needs in designing playgrounds, school districts should consider all physical, mental, intellectual, learning, communication and sensory differences—or functional limitations—whether permanent, temporary, or episodic in nature.

The PEP specifies that interaction with a barrier hinders a person’s full and equal participation. The recommendations for building an inclusive playground according to the PEP suggest that equipment is to be permanently fixed on a school site and include appropriate ground cover for fall protection, improved access, and increased mobility.

Little effort, large impact

Every donation, no matter how small, makes a huge impact in the quest to bring an inclusive playground to École Robb Road. Your contribution will help to support the school reaching its goal.

Donations can be made via:

  • GoFundMe (any amount)
  • Direct donation to the school (minimum $1000)
  • Cheque or e-transfer to robbroad@sd71.bc.ca (include "playground" in notes)
  • Tax receipt provided for donations $1000+

All proceeds raised will directly fund the construction of the new playground.
